BLACKEMU

Supply Nation for Sydney, NSW

Our rehabilitation program’s working with Indigenous incarcerated men looking to change their future for the better through skills, training and education.

We focus on the development transferable skills which see these Indigenous incarcerated men find meaningful pathways to fruitful lives post incarceration. This is essentially an incubation centre for the men to move into “The Second Chance for Change” program post incarceration.

Our Why

Our Founder local Kamilaroi man, Steve Fordham was driving down the street and he noticed one of the previous inmates who was now employed through Blackrock (Steve’s company) walking along the street wearing his orange shirt, work boots and his gloves clip hanging on the side of his jeans on a Sunday afternoon.

Steve stopped and gave him a lift and asked why he was wearing his uniform on a Sunday – when he explained that he felt when he walked into a shop in his work uniform people didn’t follow him around anymore and that older women didn’t hold their bags closely against themselves when he walked past.

The moment the man told Steve he sends his mum a picture of himself every day wearing his uniform, that this employment gave him the confidence to rebuild that his fractured relationship with his kids now he felt respected and with purpose, Steve knew he had found his calling. Steve’s mission was apparent.

Corrective Services have estimated the work Steve and our crew have done since to make a difference has saved over $260mil in tax payer money and put a significant dent in the recidivism of Indigenous men in NSW.

Our mantra is No Hand-Outs Only Hand-Ups #NHOOHU’s
